Wine Series with our Club Sommelier Michael Kompass

This week we discussed Riesling...This summer wine that is great for drinking on a sunny day. Traditionally from Germany but now has expanded over the world. It is a very hearty grape that can grow in may places in the world. It is an acidic wine that often has lots of fruit, however in Australia Rieslings tend to be dryer. Typically has lots of stone fruits as the aromatics.

The sweeter your wine the more you need to balance it out with your food pairings. Rieslings have a mineral component to it too that helps contrast the fruit. Riesling can be paired with everything from seafood to spicy dishes to just blue cheese. Rieslings age well but as they age they get dryer.

The wine came from Intersection Winery from the Okanagan.
